HCA Zone

We are eager to support aspiring and qualified HCAs from all sectors - practice, community, care homes, prisons etc. We follow DoH and RCN guidelines and suggest the following link to the RCN HCA zone: http://www.rcn.org.uk/development/health_care_support_workers

Follow the buttons on the left to find out more about the Open University Diploma for Health Care Assistants, and opportunities to work with other clinicians on a Continuing Professional Development programme.

The Open University Diploma was developed to ensure a sound learning platform together with a qualification for those wishing to acquire underpinning knowledge in a new line of work. The HCA role in general practice varies and depends on practice need, we therfore rely on individual practice nursing teams to support and develop their HCAs with the use of the HCA course programmes offered. The OU Diploma has already given many local HCAs a valuable qualification, and exceptional training. Click to find out more and see photographs of past Awards Ceremonies. The OU Diploma would need to be revalidated if we wanted to use this again. It has allready served a great many people during the introduction of HCA working following The Wanless Reportpurpose in 2006. The time and cost to revalidate would add costs to the programme and to do this would be a barrier at the moment. In the interim you are advised to go to the RCN HCA website where a toolkit has been developed for training and development. In addition we run the same competency driven course programme requiring you to attend study days and submit assigments for marking. The "Anatomy and Physiology for HCAs" programme covers the same ground as the OU Diploma. This can be commissioned at any time as long as we have 12 people on the list. Keep an eye on the calendar or talk to Christina to check out when it is next running.

The 'Flu Vaccs programme is open to all HCAs. Many MK Health Care Assistants have already completed the programme, and are now playing a vital role in Imms/Vaccs in local surgeries.

'Flu Vacs Updates are run every year, for all clinicians. Make sure you book onto the next one. They are for YOU.
