Anatomy and Physiology for
Health Care Assistants

The OU Diploma was officially launched on 26 January 2006. Developed and pioneered in Buckinghamshire, to provide a new and exciting qualification for aspiring clinicians.

Day 1 Introductory session
Getting to know you - explanation of what it all means - how the support mechanism will work and getting started. Setting of pre-course work.

NB - You must attend this session with your mentor as their understanding of what is required, and their support are crucial to your development.

Day 2
Pre course work discussion - law - communication & developing partnerships - description of human body

Day 3
Cardiovascular system - venepuncture - pulse and blood pressure monitoring - recording and ECG

Day 4
Respiratory system - Urinary system

Day 5
Anatomy and physiology of eye, ear, nose, throat; ear care -
visual acuity - the skin and wound care

Day 6
Putting it all together
Reflection and catching up
